Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Program Description

The RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is designed to allow registered nurses educational opportunities to broaden their career pathway. Through the program critical thinking skills are sharpened, supervisory and communication skills are developed, and leadership abilities are strengthened. Enhancement of job opportunities for supervisory and management positions are made. This degree prepares the student for graduate school to become a nurse practitioner, nurse anesthetist, nursing faculty, or nursing administrator.

The RN to BSN Program is designed for the non-traditional working RN with some evening classroom instructional courses as well as online course offerings. The majority of non-clinical courses are offered online. The four major courses with a clinical component are taught using a hybrid methodological approach, whereby 50-75% is taught on campus and 25-50% by on-line instruction. The clinical components of these courses are primarily in local area hospitals under the direct guidance of qualified preceptors and supervised by LSUA faculty.

Associate RNs with a current registered nursing license are encouraged to apply. Full and part time options are available to complete the program. RNs from other NLN accredited ADN programs will receive full credit for nursing courses taken. Prior to the last semester in the BSN program students must have completed 59 hours from undergraduate credits in the social and behavioral sciences, the natural and physical sciences, and the arts and humanities. Nursing students who have completed all pre-requisite courses can complete the RN to BSN program in three semesters.
