Degree Details

Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies

Program Description

Communication studies prepares students for an array of employment opportunities—from speech consultants to public relations directors, from communication facilitators to television and print journalists, from educators to computer-mediated communication experts. Students can concentrate in either human communication or mass communication as they explore how we relate today interpersonally and in groups, how we make persuasive oral and visual presentations, and how we communicate in the information age, with the focus increasingly on computer-mediated communication and the new literacies: media, information, visual, and cinematic. Students are active in a number of organizations and activities, including Lambda Pi Eta (the national honor society), the forensics team (which does well in competitions throughout the region) and the SpeakEasy Club (which provides campus service and social fellowship).
